Mixing beeswax and fragrance oil into a metal container, it discolors to a rust color but it isn't rust. ???

It is not just vanilla, all scents do the same. It does not happen in plastic jars. I thought it may be the poor seal of the metal containers but if you leave a plastic jar open or loosely capped, it does not discolor.Mixing beeswax and fragrance oil into a metal container, it discolors to a rust color but it isn't rust. ???
There are some pretty corrosive chemical reactions that may occur when you mix beeswax with oils in metal containers, depending on the metal the container is made from. I would suggest that you stick to the plastic jars. Plastic will absorb some of the odors more readily, however metals could not only change the scent you are trying to mix but may cause some corrosive byproducts that could be harmful to skin.
