Help cleaning leather couch - fragrance oil spilled!?

You know those fragrance oil vases that have the sticks coming out of them? Well sometime overnight a few nights ago, one of those vases 'mysteriously' spilt and didn't get cleaned up (soaked in the furniture all night).

Not only did the spilt oil take the a good chunk of finish off my end table, but some it dripped onto the side of my leather sofa. I first started to rub the couch with a wet rag and noticed that the black leather was actually ';melting off';. I haven't touched it since b/c any time I do more black comes off. BUT I would like to clean it before any more damage is done.

Any ideas?Help cleaning leather couch - fragrance oil spilled!?
The problem is that the oil has damaged the surface finish on your leather and is removing the top coat. It is not the leather itself but the finish that you can see coming off.

If the problem is getting worse even with a damp cloth then anything else is not going to resolve the problem other than getting it looked at professionally.

If you are in the UK you can send us a photo and we will analyse the situation and advise accordingly.

Otherwise it would be best to get a qualified technician out as any household remedies could make it very costly to fix.

Use Dawn dish liquid to clean off the oil.
i would get a good leather cleaner..whether it be a wipe or cream and try that..you may after trying one of those ..need to consult a dry cleaner...you may find they have something to help or tell you what to do too it
